Associate Professor Christy Byrd Will Help Develop Tool To Measure STEM Identities of African American Students Through Work on Grant-funded Project

To address the underrepresentation of African American students in STEM disciplines, Associate Professor Christy Byrd believes it is essential that universities and researchers understand how to support those students in developing an interest in STEM and maintaining that interest through their career selection. To help advance this understanding, Byrd will serve as a co-principal investigator on a three-year, $349,893 grant in collaboration with NC A&T University.

NC State College of Education Awarded $6.8 Million in Research Funding From July-September 2021

Faculty and researchers at the NC State College of Education, including the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, were awarded $6,865,526 to support nine projects from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2021.

Electronics are prevalent in almost every facet of life, but typically produce vast amounts of waste while their manufacturing process uses limited, scarce elements. The need to develop electronics that use energy-efficient manufacturing processes and renewable resources that degrade or can be repurposed is being addressed by a team of interdisciplinary researchers, including College of Education Professor of Science Education Meg Blanchard.
