Analysis Detects No State-Level Impacts for ‘Read to Achieve’ Initiative

North Carolina’s Read to Achieve initiative, the state program supporting reading mastery for all third-grade students, appears to have had no effect on reading scores for the first two cohorts of students exposed to the program, according to research and analysis conducted by North Carolina State University.

Dr. Karen Stout, the president and CEO of Achieving the Dream, will deliver the 2018 Dallas Herring Lecture Nov. 28 at the NC State College of Education’s Friday Institution for Educational Innovation. The title of her lecture is “The Urgent Case: Centering Teaching and Learning in the Next Generation of Community College Redesign.” Mary Rittling, president of Davidson County Community College, will provide the response to Stout’s lecture. Professor Emerita Carol Kasworm Receives 2018 AAACE Cyril O. Houle Award

Carol Kasworm, the W. Dallas Herring Professor Emerita of Adult and Community College Education, has received the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education’s 2018 Cyril O. Houle Award for the book "Foundations of Adult and Continuing Education" she co-authored with two others. The award recognizes scholars who have made outstanding contributions to literature in adult education.
