Social Studies Teachers Sharpen Their Skills with New Literacies and Global Learning Focus

Thanks to funding from the Martorella Award, three students will graduate NC State College of Education’s social studies specialization of its New Literacies and Global Learning (NLGL) master’s degree program on Friday, May 10. The NLGL social studies program prepares experienced teachers with strategies for addressing shifts in the classroom caused by changing technologies, social media and an ever-growing global society.

NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill to Prepare More Teachers for Elementary and Special Education through Expansion of Online Teacher Licensure Program

Pathway to Practice NC, an online licensure joint program between the NC State College of Education and UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Education, will create new modules that enable residency licensed teachers to work towards specialized licensures in either elementary education or special education thanks to a $200,000 grant from the SECU Foundation. The grant will also provide scholarships for 10 North Carolina teachers to complete the online training.

NC State Education Hurricane Recovery Efforts

The NC State College of Education responded to the aftermath of Hurricanes Florence and Michael by offering multiple ways of support -- to students and partner school districts across North Carolina. Among the efforts were a book drive and emergency student support fund.

Helping Students Recover from Hurricane Florence

The NC State College of Education is helping students directly impacted by Hurricane Florence through the Gerald Fund for Emergency Student Support. Clinical mental health counseling graduate student Jasmine Ambrose -- who recently moved to Jacksonville, N.C. -- is the first to receive funds to assist with immediate needs due to circumstances caused by the record-breaking storm.

Matt Friedrick ’13MED, ’16MBA Named Executive Director of Development

Matt Friedrick ’13MED, ‘16MBA, a longtime development and program director and former classroom teacher who has served on multiple education boards and task forces, will join the NC State College of Education Sept. 10 as its executive director of development. 

The college had a record year of giving in 2018.

With 1K+ Donors, NC State College of Education Has Record Year of Giving in 2017-18

The NC State College of Education received gifts totaling $4,680,964 from 1,047 donors during fiscal year 2017-18. The number of donors is the highest total the college has had in a single year in its 90-year history, and the dollar amount in gifts is the most since at least 2003.

The college’s doctoral program in leadership ranked No. 2 among programs focused on leadership and organizational development, while its master’s program in training and development ranked No. 5 in HR.com’s LEAD Awards.

NC State College of Education Board Announces $90,000 Challenge

The members of the NC State College of Education Board have issued the $90,000 Challenge to celebrate the founding of the school 90 years ago. The Board will give up to $90,000 to support students and programs across the college if alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends join them in celebrating the college’s 90th anniversary by engaging in up to three activities.
