Achieving the Dream President and CEO Karen A. Stout Named Chair of Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research Advisory Board

Karen A. Stout, Ed.D., president and CEO of Achieving the Dream, has been appointed as the chair of the Advisory Board for the NC State College of Education’s Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research. She takes over the role from NC State Professor of the Practice Robert Templin, Ph.D., who has served as chair for the past several years.

Belk Center Brings Community College Presidents, Trustees Together to Discuss Ways to Improve Student Outcomes, Economic Mobility at 1st Presidents’ Academy

What role do community colleges play in realizing this goal and enhancing North Carolina economic competitiveness, and how can they help the state’s residents improve their economic mobility and meet future workforce demands? Presidents and trustees of community colleges from across North Carolina weighed those questions Thursday, May 23, 2019, during the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research’s first Presidents’ Academy statewide leadership conference.

8 NC State Education Doctoral Students Named 2019 DREAM Fellows

Eight doctoral students from the NC State College of Education’s Adult and Community College program attended Achieving the Dream’s annual conference as DREAM Fellows Feb. 19-21, 2019. DREAM Fellows provide the organization with deeper feedback about the conference as well as detailed observations about emerging trends and issues that can enhance the organization’s work in student success.

Achieving the Dream President and CEO Karen Stout to Deliver Dallas Herring Lecture Nov. 28

Dr. Karen Stout, the president and CEO of Achieving the Dream, will deliver the 2018 Dallas Herring Lecture Nov. 28 at the NC State College of Education’s Friday Institution for Educational Innovation. The title of her lecture is “The Urgent Case: Centering Teaching and Learning in the Next Generation of Community College Redesign.” Mary Rittling, president of Davidson County Community College, will provide the response to Stout’s lecture.
