Doctoral Student Justin Egresitz Shares Importance of Teaching Digital Understanding and Citizenship in Technology Education Through Recently Published Article

Justin Egresitz, a doctoral student in the NC State College of Education’s Learning and Teaching in STEM Ph.D. program, believes that engineering and technology education can have the biggest impact when high technology and low technology concepts come together. With the use of high-concept technology though, comes a need for students to develop digital understanding and comprehend what it means to be a good digital citizen -- an issue he explores in a recently published article.

When Assistant Professor Christy Byrd, Ph.D., was a graduate student, she was part of a research lab focused on the study of Black identity. While most researchers at the time were exploring the relationship between having a strong Black identity and feelings about school, Byrd felt there was a crucial element missing. She shares how this experience inspired her ongoing research into school climate and its relationship to racial identity.
