#WhyIChoseEducation: Victoria Thompson

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Victoria Thompson
Graduation Year: 2016
Program: M.Ed. Higher Education Administration
Career Role & Responsibilities: Elon University, Assistant Director of Study USA

I work directly with our Elon in NYC students, advise a group of first-year students as an Elon 101 instructor, and manage several short-term Study Abroad and Study USA programs.

Why did you enter the field of education?
I entered education to work with student life at the collegiate level. I am passionate about providing opportunities on campus for all students- not just those that most eager to engage but also the students that may be struggling to find their spot.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
I was excited to see the opportunities for graduate assistantships available with NC State. I worked with University Housing and faced an exciting set of challenges and learning opportunities each day that prepared me for my career after graduation. I’m also a double alumna of NC State (’14 & ’16) and a Wolfpack fan for life!
