How We Deepened Our Impact in 2024
From our alumni, faculty, staff and students receiving dozens of awards to our college ranking among the best in the world and breaking another record for research, the College of Education at NC State leaned in to its strategic focus areas around innovation, interdisciplinarity and inclusiveness to make a transformative impact on the field of education in 2024. Here are highlights from the past year.
We enhanced student experiences.
- We welcomed our largest number of undergraduates in at least a decade.
- We welcomed 121 new Teaching Fellows — the most in North Carolina.
- We welcomed 12 first-year students in our third cohort of the Transformational Scholarships Program, an innovative teacher preparation program for Eastern North Carolina supported by the Anonymous Trust.
- We launched Elevate, NC State’s new inclusive post-secondary education program.
- We welcomed 12 new faculty, including inaugural Goodnight Distinguished Professor in Early Literacy Devin Kearns.
- We had three faculty members receive NSF CAREER grants, our most in a single year.
- We set a college record for research expenditures, exceeding $20 million for the first time.
- We launched four Interdisciplinary Research Hubs and two Innovation Fellows programs.
- We celebrated the fifth anniversary of our Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research.
- We celebrated the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking of the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.
- We graduated over 435 new alumni who will go on to help others achieve their dreams.
- We ranked #1 in N.C., #21 in the U.S. and #60 in the world in education and educational research in U.S. News’ Best Global Universities Subject Rankings.

- Our alumni, faculty, staff, and students received more than two dozen awards and honors.
- We brought together educators and leaders from across the country to convene on pressing educational issues through such events as the AI in Education Summit, the Dallas Herring Lecture and North Carolina Literacy Leaders retreat.
Thanks to donors…
- We established five new scholarships.
- We received 992 gifts on NC State’s 2024 Day of Giving—the most gifts the college has ever received on the day.
- We provided our students with high-impact experiences, including through our mini-grants, summer internships and study abroad programs.
