Technician: Wolfpack WORKS Literacy Initiative Gets $12.2M Grant

The NC State College of Education's Wolfpack WORKS literacy initiative will use a new three-year, $12.2 million grant from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction to extend its support to third-year K-2 teachers in partner school districts and hire additional literacy coaches to increase the reach of the initiative to more than 240 teachers across North Carolina.

Wolfpack WORKS Receives $12.2M Grant from DPI to Improve Early Literacy Across NC

The NC State College of Education’s Wolfpack WORKS literacy initiative has received a three-year, $12,266,816 grant from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction to expand its support of beginning K-2 teachers and improve early literacy outcomes across North Carolina. Started in summer 2018 and now in its pilot year, Wolfpack WORKS has worked with over 170 first- and second-year K-2 teachers in 16 high-need school districts in North Carolina to help them improve early literacy instruction. With the new grant, Wolfpack WORKS will continue for at least three more years and expand its support to include third-year K-2 teachers.

Should superintendents hand over their resignation letters when they become targets of angry calls for removal with little evidence of wrongdoing? It depends. Self-aware superintendents should evaluate if their presence is a distraction or "[inhibits] the ability of other educators—principals, teachers—to effectively do their jobs," NC State College of Education Professor Lance Fusarelli tells Education Week.

An Inside Look at Teaching in Eastern North Carolina

The NC State College of Education’s We Teach for NC Spring Break trip offered a group of 24 undergraduate students the opportunity to experience a typical day inside Eastern North Carolina high schools and meet with administrators, teachers and county officials in Craven, Lenoir, Onslow and Wayne counties.

NC State Education Names 2019 ECMC Foundation Fellows for Postsecondary Career and Technical Education Research

Sixteen research fellows from institutions across the nation have been selected to participate in the CTE Research Program at North Carolina State University–Sponsored by ECMC Foundation. Known as ECMC Foundation Fellows, the researchers selected for this program will participate in two training institutes, webinars on research methods, and a convening focusing on postsecondary CTE.

NC State Education Continues to Move Up in U.S. News Ranking, Now No. 45 in Nation

For the third straight year, the NC State College of Education has moved up in the U.S. News’ rankings, hitting a new high at No. 45 in the nation in the latest edition released March 12. This is a jump of 14 spots since the 2017 edition. The college was also was ranked No. 22 in the nation in the Educational Administration and Supervision speciality category for its outstanding principal preparation program.

Professor John Nietfeld Receives Internationalization Seed Grant

Dr. John Nietfeld, a professor of educational psychology at the NC State College of Education, has received a 2019-20 Internationalization Seed Grant from the NC State Office of Global Engagement to travel to Spain to begin working with the University of Oviedo on a Spanish version of his game-based learning environment Missions with Monty.
