The NC State College of Education assistant professor of methods and policy joins 39 others named to the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management’s 40 for 40 Fellowship, which recognizes outstanding early career research professionals.

International Inquiry: Providing Local In-Service Teachers with International Professional Development

Three NC State College of Education faculty members and a group of 20 in-service teachers from Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake counties traveled to the Czech Republic for two weeks as part of a teacher professional development program July 8-22, 2018. The program prepares teachers to adopt technology-enabled strategies to connect and understand cultures to inform their classroom instruction.

Smith High School in Fayetteville, about addressing equity in public education and how she works with the Governor’s Commission on Access to Sound Basic Education to meet the needs of all students in the state. Chalmers is a student in the NC State College of Education's educational administration and supervision doctoral program.

The Hunt Institute: Lessons from the Field: North Carolina’s NELA Principal Preparation Program in Practice

Jennifer O'Meara and Donnell Cannon, both graduates of NC State Education's Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA) and principals in Edgecomb County, welcomed members of the Hunt Institute’s policy team to their schools to show the transformative work that is underway. The Hunt Institute is currently working on a case study about NELA that will be published later this year.

Science magazine cites NC State Education Professor Audrey J. Jaeger's research on how postdoctoral researchers perform science and seek legitimacy as scientists after graduation in a comprehensive guide to life after graduate school. Tara D. Hudson '15 PHD, Karen J. Haley '06 PHD, Allison Mitchall '15 PHD, Alessandra Dinin ‘17 PHD, and Stephany Dunstan '13 PHD served as co-authors and researchers on this project.

Peers across the nation elected Joy Gaston Gayles, a professor of higher education in the NC State College of Education, as an at-large member to the Board of Directors of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), an organization with over 2,100 members dedicated to higher education as a field of study.

An Extraordinary Year

The NC State College of Education's record year of giving -- which included gifts and pledges totaling $4,680,964 from 1,047 donors during fiscal year 2017-18 and a $10.86 million grant from the Belk Foundation to launch the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research -- helped the university experience another outstanding fundraising year, as its Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign continues to transform all aspects of campus life and power the university’s strong momentum.
