#WhyIChoseEducation: Jen Elliott

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Jen Elliott
Graduation Year:  Current Student
Department/Program: Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies
Career Role & Responsibilities: I am currently enrolled at NC State College of Education. Through my classes, I am working on helping the students in my observation Language Arts class be prepared for their EOG.

Why did you enter the field of education?
I entered the field of education because I have always loved teaching people things that are new to them. I love the lightbulb moments when they finally understand something or seeing them get into something they didn’t think they would.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
NC State College of Education has an amazing program. I love that I will be double licensed at the end. I also love that starting in my sophomore year, I get to go in the field and observe and help in classrooms. This experience gives me an amazing jump start on the parts of teaching that can only be learned hands on, and that will better prepare me for my first years teaching.
