#WhyIChoseEducation: Kara Wenberg

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Kara Wenberg
Graduation Year: 2014
Program: Middle Grades – ELA & SS
Career Role & Responsibilities: I am a 6th grade Social Studies teacher at Martin GT Magnet Middle School in Raleigh. I also am the head softball coach.

Why did you enter the field of education?
I had a rough start to middle school and without the support and love from my teachers I would not be where I am today. Seeing the impact my teachers had on me made me want to do the same for future students of my own. I continued to have the most amazing teachers throughout middle school and it is what ultimately made me choose to go into middle grades education.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
The NC State College of Education is one of the best education programs out there. The professors don’t just teach you how to teach, they teach you to be the best teacher, friend, confidant, and mentor that you can be. They go above and beyond the basics of education to make sure that we are confident walking out of their class and into our own. I’m so lucky to have had the experience that I did at the university. I wouldn’t be the teacher I am today without my cohort and professors!
