#WhyIChoseEducation: Heather Covington

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Heather Covington
Graduation Year: 2011
Program: Instructional Technology
Career Role & Responsibilities: Wake County Public School System – Wake Early College of Health and Sciences – Raleigh, NC – Career Development Coordinator

Why did you enter the field of education?
I wanted to be the innovative educator I would want my son to have in the classroom and also the educator I didn’t have – the one I would have wanted to help me succeed, reach my goals, and push me along the way.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
As a two-time graduate of East Carolina University, the decision was tough. While the program was available at ECU, I felt that NC State was aligned with my professional goals and the program just “fit.” A decision I will never regret.
