Faculty are committed to extension and engagement activities in K-12 schools, higher education settings, community organizations, and the workplace.
Our most important contributions are our role with Envisioning Excellence for Community College Leadership, the Department Chairs Institute (DCI), the Advanced Administration Institute (AAI) and the Executive Leadership Program (ELP). In partnership with the North Carolina Community College system, we work to build the skills of front-line academic administrators in the state’s 58 community colleges.
In addition, ELPHD is home to the National Initiative for Leadership & Institutional Effectiveness (NILIE). By conducting research on leadership and institutional effectiveness using specialized surveys, NILIE assists Institutions in developing strategies that improve student success through collaborative leadership.
ELPHD also offers a master’s in School Administration through Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA), an innovative school leader preparation program designed to develop principals as instructional leaders who drive improvements in student achievement in northeast North Carolina’s rural, high-need schools.
The Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC) at the Wade Edwards Foundation and Learning Laboratory (WELL) provides short-term and affordable counseling services to individuals, couples, and families that focus on healthy personal, emotional, social, and career development through our Counselor Education Program.
We also contribute to and support
- NC State’s outreach, extension, and economic development programs for the people, businesses, and communities of North Carolina.
- Study-abroad opportunities through the International and Distance Education Alliance.
- Peer-reviewed research in national publications, including the Community College Review, a national journal of research about community colleges whose editorial board is led by ELPHD faculty.
