Teachers in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Looking Forward to Bringing Math Discourse into Classrooms Through Project AIM Professional Development

About 30 teachers in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district are participating in professional development through Project AIM (All Included in Mathematics), a program developed by NC State College of Education Dean Paola Sztajn and Horizon Research, Inc. that helps elementary school teachers learn to promote mathematics discourse for all learners using techniques adapted from literacy instruction.

With $3.4 Million Grant, Dean Paola Sztajn Expands Project AIM Professional Development to Support Coaches, Principals and Strengthen Focus on Equity

For the past decade, NC State College of Education Dean Paola Sztajn has helped elementary school teachers improve their mathematics practices through Project AIM (All Included in Mathematics). Now, she is expanding the program to better support school leaders and instructional coaches and have a stronger impact on students.

Professor Paola Sztajn Helps Teachers Encourage Young Students to Engage in Mathematical Discourse Through New Book

Participation in mathematics discourse can promote mathematical understanding among elementary school students, but the ability to engage in such conversations does not come naturally to most young children. In order to help educators understand how to support and incorporate productive mathematical conversations in the classroom, NC State College of Education Professor Paola Sztajn, Ph.D. has authored a new book entitled Activating Math Talk: 11 Purposeful Techniques for Your Elementary Students.
