NCDPI: Edgecombe County School Leader Named 2019 N.C. Principal of the Year

Matthew Bristow-Smith '14MSA was named Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year Friday, May 10. He took the helm of Edgecombe Early College High School shortly after completing the NC State College of Education's Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA) in 2014. Of the award and his role within his school, Bristow-Smith said, “The work is not about us. The work is about the kids. It’s about the families. It’s about the communities that we serve.”

The College of Education has risen in the US News' rankings over the past three years and is up 14 spots since 2017.

NC State Education Continues to Move Up in U.S. News Ranking, Now No. 45 in Nation

For the third straight year, the NC State College of Education has moved up in the U.S. News’ rankings, hitting a new high at No. 45 in the nation in the latest edition released March 12. This is a jump of 14 spots since the 2017 edition. The college was also was ranked No. 22 in the nation in the Educational Administration and Supervision speciality category for its outstanding principal preparation program.

Rocky Mount Telegram: Edgecombe Honors Top Principal

Edgecombe County Public Schools has named Matt Smith '14 MSA its 2018-19 Principal of the Year. Smith joined Edgecombe County Early College High School as principal after completing the NC State College of Education's Northeast Leadership Academy.

The Hunt Institute: Lessons from the Field: North Carolina’s NELA Principal Preparation Program in Practice

Jennifer O'Meara and Donnell Cannon, both graduates of NC State Education's Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA) and principals in Edgecomb County, welcomed members of the Hunt Institute’s policy team to their schools to show the transformative work that is underway. The Hunt Institute is currently working on a case study about NELA that will be published later this year.

34 New Fellows Join NC State Education’s Principal Preparation Programs

The NC State College of Education announces three new cohorts enrolled in its evidence-based principal preparation program. The 34 new students, who began classes in May, will work towards the completion of a Master of School Administration while earning their N.C. principal license.

NC State College of Education to Host N.C. Principal Fellows Program

 The University of North Carolina has announced that the N.C. Principal Fellows Program (NCPFP) will relocate from the UNC System office to NC State University’s College of Education campus in 2019. “NC State is proud to host the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program, collaborating with our partner universities to prepare upcoming generations of educational leaders who will positively impact students across our state,” said NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson.
