Throughout her career, Friday Institute Executive Director and College of Education Associate Dean Hiller Spires, Ph.D., has developed Project-Based Inquiry Global, led the New Literacies and Global Learning program and collaborated with educators across the globe. She uses this experience to share how education is different around the world. 

During the showcase, a team of students under the direction of Person Early College for Innovation and Leadership’s engineering teacher, David Price, created a UV water treatment system.

PBI Global Provides Authentic, High-Impact Learning for an NC Rural/Urban School Partnership

Through a two-year, NSF-funded DRK-12 exploratory grant, a multidisciplinary team of researchers at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and the NC State College of Education are examining how engagement in Project-Based Inquiry (PBI) Global, a collaborative global inquiry process, affects the development of learners’ science content knowledge and motivation.

NSF Grant Will Broaden Project-Based Inquiry (PBI) Global to Include STEM Learning Through An NC Rural/Urban School Partnership

A new grant from the National Science Foundation will allow Hiller Spires, Ph.D., and Erin Krupa, Ph.D., to expand the Project-Based Inquiry Global project to include STEM learning.

NC State Education Awarded $2.5M in Research Funding August-October, 2019

Faculty and researchers at the NC State College of Education, including its Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, were awarded $2,467,124 to support 15 research projects from Aug. 1 to Oct. 21, 2019.

Learning to Address Global Issues Through International Collaboration and Inquiry

NC State Education faculty and staff traveled with 15 Wake STEM Early College High School students to China for the first PBI-Global Student Summit this past spring. The summit provided a venue for students from North Carolina to collaborate with 20 students at the Suzhou North America High School to create solutions for world problems.
