1st Group of Pathway to Practice NC Completers Earn Teaching Licensures as Program Expands

Pathway to Practice NC, a 100% online teacher licensure program aimed at helping North Carolina address its growing teacher shortage, launched in October 2017. Since its inception, the program has had 12 teachers earn full teacher licensure, while another 86 residency-licensed teachers from across the state are currently enrolled.

Nick Musgrave was two years into teaching math at Thomasville Middle School when he began Pathway to Practice NC, a joint program offered by UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State University designed to help lateral entry teachers like him earn their full teaching license. “The program has absolutely changed the way I teach,” he says.

Pathway to Practice NC Accepting Applications for Elementary Education, Special Education Teacher Licensure Programs

Pathway to Practice NC, an online teacher licensure joint program offered by the NC State College of Education and UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education, is now accepting applications from teachers interested in becoming fully licensed to teach in elementary education or special education.

NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill to Prepare More Teachers for Elementary and Special Education through Expansion of Online Teacher Licensure Program

Pathway to Practice NC, an online licensure joint program between the NC State College of Education and UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Education, will create new modules that enable residency licensed teachers to work towards specialized licensures in either elementary education or special education thanks to a $200,000 grant from the SECU Foundation. The grant will also provide scholarships for 10 North Carolina teachers to complete the online training.

The James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal: NC State, UNC Partner to Combat Teacher Shortage

Pathway to Practice, a joint program between the NC State College of Education and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is providing an innovative solution to North Carolina's teacher shortage by offering a new online, competency-based program for lateral-entry teachers. Lateral-entry teachers can clear their provisional North Carolina teaching licenses through the program in 12 to 18 months.
