In the Spotlight: Kirsten Hoeflaken ’18MED, Staff Senator and University Program Specialist for Knowledge Management and Assessment

We’re introducing a new series called In the Spotlight in which we’ll feature one staff member each month. In our debut edition, we spotlight Kirsten Hoeflaken, a staff senator, the 2024 SHRA recipient of the college’s 2024 Dr. Louis D. Hunt Service Leadership Award, and the university program specialist for knowledge management and assessment. Here she answers five questions.

Kirsten Hoeflaken ’18MED, Ayelen Valeton Receive College of Education’s 2024 Dr. Louis D. Hunt Service Leadership Award

Kirsten Hoeflaken and Ayelen Valeton are the recipients of the College of Education’s 2024 Dr. Louis D. Hunt Service Leadership Award, which recognizes two staff members in the college each year for exemplary service and leadership. Hoeflaken, the college’s university program specialist for knowledgement management and assessment, is the Dr. Louis D. Hunt Service Leadership Award SHRA Recipient; and Valeton, the college’s business operations manager, is the Dr. Louis D. Hunt Service Leadership Award EHRA Recipient.

Why I Give: ‘I Hope Students, Especially Immigrants and Students from Minority Populations, Get the Opportunity to Become a Teacher,’ Says University Program Associate Kirsten Hoeflaken ‘18MED

Born and raised in the Netherlands, University Program Associate Kirsten Hoeflaken ‘18MED always wanted to be a teacher. She was inspired by her fifth grade teacher and went on to teach for over 20 years before moving to the United States. She gives to the NC State College of Education as a token of gratitude for helping and supporting her as an immigrant.
