Friday Institute Senior Faculty Fellow Carla C. Johnson Expands Online Learning Opportunities for K-12 Educators with New Grant from Institute of Education Sciences

 Carla C. Johnson, Ph.D., a senior faculty fellow with the NC State College of Education’s Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and a professor of science education in the college, will develop and study two new Professional Learning Online Modules (PLOM) for educators through a recently funded, two-year grant.

WRAL: Start Interventions Earlier to Improve Reading Skills

Trip Stallings, director of policy research at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, says better interventions in earlier grades could help North Carolina make more progress in reading achievement. Stallings is part of a team of researchers from the NC State College of Education and the Friday Institute that released findings from a five-year study on the state's Read to Achieve program last year.

WUNC: Researchers Say N.C. Voucher Program Needs Closer Look Than They Can Give

Researchers at the NC State College of Education and the Friday Institute this week released the results of an unpublished evaluation of the Opportunity Scholarship, a state-funded voucher that helps low-income students attend private schools. The research came out with positive results for the voucher recipients who participated in the study – but the authors say those results come with many caveats.
