Professor Eric Wiebe Joins New NSF AI Institute for Engaged Learning to Advance Learning and Education

Eric Wiebe, a professor of STEM education in the NC State College of Education and senior faculty fellow at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, is part of a new National Science Foundation (NSF) research initiative that will create and utilize artificial intelligence (AI) tools to advance learning and education.

Professor Carla Johnson Leads the Development of First Handbook of Research on STEM Education, Featuring Contributions from College of Education Faculty

Several College of Education faculty members have contributed chapters in the recently released Handbook of Research on STEM Education, on which Professor Carla Johnson, Ed.D., served as lead editor. In addition to that work, Johnson has also helped pilot a new STEAM curriculum that is being piloted throughout China.

$1 Million Grant Will Support Broadening Participation in Computer Science and Computational Thinking

A team of faculty and researchers at NC State University were recently awarded a three-year $1 million National Science Foundation grant in collaboration with the Wake County Public School System, UNC-Charlotte and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to broaden participation in computer science and computational thinking in North Carolina. Dr. Eric Wiebe, Dr. Dave Frye and Dr. Sherry Freeman from the NC State College of Education's Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and Dr. Tiffany Barnes from the Department of Computer Science at NC State will lead this project, starting this month, titled EcoCS: Developing a Systemic, Scalable Model to Broaden Participation in Middle School Computer Science Using an RPP Approach.
