Bio

Sharon Chung is a recent graduate of the Counselor Education program at the College of William and Mary. Previously, Sharon was a School Counselor for two years, where she worked with a diverse population of 750 K-5 students. Sharon is passionate about school counseling and wants to produce research that bridges that gap between families and schools. Sharon is also interested in extending the research on multicultural counseling. Sharon is passionate about teaching future school counselors so that students can benefit from a highly skilled, empathetic advocate within every school. Sharon is very excited to be teaching the Online School Counseling program at NC State University.

Research Description

As a previous school counselor and former family counseling intern, Sharon recognizes the value of building school-family partnerships and advocating for those who may not have full access to counseling and/or school counseling services. Therefore, Sharon is interested in bridging the gap between families and schools. Aside from her personal passion about this topic, research shows that K-12 schools will continue to have an increase in diverse populations. Therefore, multicultural competence is a highly relevant topic and an essential component in producing high quality counselors. Sharon's continued research in this field will contribute to understanding how counselors and counselor educators can be the most effective with diverse populations.
