through research, development, and leadership in these areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p2 wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Leadership<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"p5\">Since 2010, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nela2.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA)<\/a> awarded <i>$14 million in grants <\/i>to develop, deliver, and research strategic partnerships to create robust leadership pipelines for under-resourced rural school districts and is a <a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/news\/2014\/10\/21\/nc-state-wins-national-award-for-preparing-rural-school-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">n<i>ational exemplar<\/i><\/a><i> <\/i>of a research-based school leadership preparation program<\/li><li class=\"p5\"><i><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/news\/2015\/03\/23\/nc-state-wins-grant-to-help-develop-next-generation-of-community-college-leaders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">High impact collaboration<\/a> <\/i>with the NC Community College system, including designing sustainable community college leadership reform to increase student success<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Digital Transformation&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"p2\">Formed <i>multidisciplinary teams <\/i>across NC State to lead cutting edge projects on the <a href=\"https:\/\/workthatmatters.ncsu.edu\/digital-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digital transformation of education<\/a><\/li><li class=\"p2\">Friday Institute, in partnership with the Alliance for Excellent Education, the White House and the U.S. Department of Education, developed the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/news.ncsu.edu\/2015\/02\/5-questions-on-digital-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Future Ready Schools initiative<\/a><\/i>, to help school districts make the most of digital learning<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\"><b>STEM Teaching &amp; Learning<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"p2\">Development of a <i><a href=\"https:\/\/projectatoms.ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national model for elementary STEM teacher development<\/a><\/i>, supported by a $3 million NSF grant<\/li><li class=\"p2\"><i><a href=\"https:\/\/projects.intellimedia.ncsu.edu\/engage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Multi-modal learning research<\/a> <\/i>in the STEM disciplines which leverage emerging technologies and techniques in multi-sensory input and data analytics, virtual reality techniques, and game-based learning environments<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1 wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Literacy<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"p2\">Examining what it means to be <em><a href=\"https:\/\/newlit.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">literate in a digital world<\/a><\/em>, including issues related to digital literacies, writing with technology, and game-based learning as literacy<\/li><li class=\"p2\">Creating a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fi.ncsu.edu\/news\/breaking-new-ground-in-suzhou-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state-of-the-art high school<\/a><\/em> in Suzhou, China, which collaborates virtually on inquiry projects with teachers and students in NC<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Extension and Engagement<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"p2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msen.fi.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NC Math and Science Education Network Pre-College Program<\/a> (NC-MSEN): prepares underserved students at the middle and high school levels to attend a 4-year college or university, and for careers in education and STEM. <i>99% of participants have gone on to college<\/i><\/li><li class=\"p2\"><i>15,600+ educators from around the world <\/i>reached through Friday Institute online or in-person <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fi.ncsu.edu\/focus-areas\/education-workforce-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">professional development programs<\/a>.&nbsp;Friday Institute, an early leader in MOOC research and development, launched <a href=\"https:\/\/place.fi.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>MOOC-Ed<\/i>,<\/a> the first platform of this type for international teacher professional development<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>For more
