Give now to create an extraordinary future for our college.[\/spotlight-box]<\/p>\n<p>The fiscal year\u2019s giving highlights included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the creation of 104 new scholarship and fellowship funds (425 total during the Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign);<\/li>\n<li>the establishment of six new distinguished professorships (75 out of 203 endowed faculty positions campuswide have been established during the Campaign);<\/li>\n<li>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/news\/2018\/07\/23\/with-1k-donors-nc-state-college-of-education-has-record-year-of-giving-in-2017-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best fiscal year fundraising totals ever for the College of Education<\/a> and the College of Engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NC State publicly launched its most ambitious fundraising effort, the five-year, $1.6 billion Think and Do the Extraordinary Campaign, in October 2016. The Campaign is designed to better position the university to create economic, societal and intellectual prosperity for the state and beyond, in perpetuity. Campaign priority areas include extraordinary\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/about-the-campaign\/extraordinary-opportunity\/\">opportunity<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/about-the-campaign\/extraordinary-purpose\/\">purpose<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/about-the-campaign\/extraordinary-places\/\">places<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/about-the-campaign\/extraordinary-experience\/\">experience<\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/about-the-campaign\/extraordinary-leadership\/\">leadership<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Through Aug. 29, the Campaign had raised\u00a084 percent of its goal, or $1.35 billion, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$639.75 million of $800 million goal for endowment<\/li>\n<li>$518.95 million of $600 million goal for current operations<\/li>\n<li>$188.58 of $200 million goal for facilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Campaign has garnered support from nearly 80,000 donors, who hail from all 100 counties of North Carolina, all 50 states and 62 foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing an incredible response to our Campaign,\u201d Chancellor Randy Woodson said. \u201cOur supporters are ensuring that higher education remains accessible by providing more opportunities and resources to more students. They\u2019re strengthening our faculty and its ability to collaborate, innovate and solve the world\u2019s biggest challenges. They\u2019re helping us create new spaces and reinvent other campus facilities, and so much more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis level of investment represents tremendous widespread support for this great university, and propels NC State forward toward achieving its full potential. We are certainly grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the fiscal year, the university\u2019s endowment stood at $1.3 billion, which places it among the top 100 largest higher-education endowments in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the most exciting and important of the many milestones that donors have helped us reach in the past few years is the growth in our endowment, which is critical to positioning NC State well for the future,\u201d Woodson said.\u00a0\u201cRobust endowments are the bedrock of all great universities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Woodson was appointed chancellor in April 2010, he\u00a0made increasing philanthropy generally, and building the endowment specifically, a strategic focus.\u00a0NC State\u2019s endowment has more than doubled since 2010, when it stood at $503 million, and reached the $1 billion milestone well ahead of Woodson\u2019s goal of achieving that level by 2019. The combination of strong investment performance coupled with extraordinary philanthropy has propelled that growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we are making great progress in continuing to build the culture of philanthropy at NC State across all segments of our campus community, and to increase awareness of what a difference donors are making,\u201d said Brian Sischo, vice chancellor of university advancement. \u201cAlumni and friends are passionate about our university and enthusiastic about NC State\u2019s upward trajectory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve also seen gains over the past few years in faculty and staff giving, for example, and in first-time donors. Our student giving has almost tripled over the past couple of years, which sends a powerful message about NC State\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the fiscal year, nearly 1,200 current students made a gift.<\/p>\n<p>Donors are having an impact in a range of areas at the university. Among notable gifts during the fiscal year were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$25 million from the Ed Fitts Jr. and Ed Woolard Jr. families to name the College of Engineering\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/about-the-campaign\/extraordinary-places\/fitts-woolard-hall\/extraordinary-places-in-action-fitts-woolard-hall\/\">Fitts-Woolard Hall<\/a>, which is under construction on Centennial Campus<\/li>\n<li>A gift from Bill and Frances Henry to complete<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/news\/2017\/11\/an-extraordinary-gift-to-complete-the-memorial-belltower\/\">\u00a0the Memorial Belltower at Henry Square<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Establishment of the\u00a0largest endowed chair at NC State, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/news\/2017\/10\/extraordinary-gift-supports-aging-pets\/\">Dr. Kady M. Gjessing and Rahna M. Davidson Distinguished Chair in Gerontology<\/a>, at the College of Veterinary Medicine<\/li>\n<li>$10.96 million from the John M. Belk Endowment to\u00a0enhance the College of Education\u2019s support to community colleges in North Carolina, including enabling the college\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/news\/2018\/06\/04\/nc-state-education-receives-10-8m-grant-from-belk-endowment-to-enhance-its-support-of-community-colleges\/\">to launch the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among other highlights,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.ncsu.edu\/news\/caldwell-fellows\/\">the Caldwell Fellows<\/a>, the university\u2019s oldest undergraduate scholarship and leadership program, is celebrating its 50th\u00a0anniversary this year. Thanks to many alumni and other supporters, the program has impacted nearly 1,400 students.<\/p>\n<p>Private support also has helped NC State\u2019s Study Abroad Office\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/global.ncsu.edu\/study-abroad-surpasses-participation-and-diversity-goals\/?utm_source=Bulletin+-+July+list&amp;utm_campaign=2f031b2c5d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_07_12_04_02&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_e2f96eb22d-2f031b2c5d-101247397\">surpass its 2019 enrollment goals<\/a>\u00a0a year early. Data for 2017-18 shows a 53.6 percent increase in total enrollment in study abroad and a 129 percent increase in study abroad by underrepresented students, including first-generation college students and students who are racial or ethnic minorities; the university set a goal in 2014 of increasing each of those measures by 50 percent over five years.<\/p>\n<p>Since the 2011-12 baseline data year that informed NC State\u2019s goals as a Generation Study Abroad initiative partner, the university has awarded nearly $2 million in study abroad scholarships to 1,333 students, created 20 new study abroad scholarships and more than tripled scholarship funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll across campus, NC State\u2019s momentum is strong.
