Items listed are in no particular order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NC State College of Education&#039;s Extraordinary 2019\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U8h2iW-I_H8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Times Higher Education\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/11\/20\/nc-state-college-of-education-moves-up-8-spots-in-world-university-rankings-ranked-no-84-internationally\/\"><strong>ranked us No. 84 in the world<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on its list of best colleges for\u00a0education degrees, an improvement of eight spots from last year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We welcomed 54 new students to the North Carolina Teaching Fellows at NC State program \u2014 the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/09\/26\/nc-state-home-to-largest-teaching-fellows-cohort-in-nc\/\">largest entering cohort of Teaching Fellows<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the state this fall. With 74 total Teaching Fellows, NC State is home to the largest group of Teaching Fellows in North Carolina.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/extraordinaryeducatorsnc.com\/\">celebrated extraordinary educators<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0throughout the fall, including nearly a dozen of our alumni who won national, statewide and districtwide awards for their work in K-12 schools in 2018-19 during our first\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/an-edtalks-2019-recap-a-night-of-celebrating-extraordinary-educators-and-life-changing-education\/\">EdTalks: A Celebration of K-12 Education<\/a><\/strong>, which about 600 people attended. All of our alumni and other educators were also recognized at NC State Athletics\u2019 Nov. 16\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/11\/18\/photos-videos-and-more-from-nc-state-athletics-educator-appreciation-day-game-nov-16\/\">Educator Appreciation Day<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>football game. And you honored the extraordinary educators in your lives through your stories and gifts during\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/help-us-celebrate-extraordinary-educators\/\">American Education Week<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How Wolfpack WORKS is Improving Early Literacy in North Carolina\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-j4LgBowoAQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/wolfpack-works-a-look-at-the-literacy-initiatives-first-year\/\">expanded our Wolfpack WORKS literacy initiative<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to provide support to over 200 first-, second- and third-year K-2 teachers in 16 high-need public school districts in North Carolina thanks to a three-year, $12,266,816 grant from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, the largest grant awarded to the college since records have been kept.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We launched several new initiatives to provide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/10\/29\/college-of-education-launches-new-global-initiatives-to-support-study-abroad-opportunities-and-international-conference-participation-for-students\/\"><strong>more opportunities for our students to engage globally<\/strong>,<\/a>\u00a0including the Global Educators Program, College of Education Global Presenter Award and College of Education Global Award. We also had our\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/10\/31\/nc-state-college-of-education-nc-state-european-center-collaborate-to-provide-more-opportunities-for-education-students-to-study-abroad\/\">first student to study abroad in Prague<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for a full semester this fall, and we partnered with NC State Prague to offer<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/10\/31\/nc-state-college-of-education-nc-state-european-center-collaborate-to-provide-more-opportunities-for-education-students-to-study-abroad\/\"><strong>\u00a0a course specifically for education students,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0which will first be held in spring 2020.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With 28 grants awarded from external sources totaling $30,287,540 in funding, our faculty\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/09\/26\/with-30m-awarded-in-fy2019-nc-state-education-faculty-set-record-for-grants-awarded-for-2nd-straight-year\/\">set a new record for the dollar amount in grants<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0awarded in a single year for the second year in a row.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Meet #NCState23\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g4BBh7_DCXI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the third straight year, we opened a new academic year with\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/08\/20\/new-student-enrollment-up-for-3rd-straight-year-new-graduate-student-enrollment-jumps-27\/\">an increase in new student enrollment<\/a><\/strong>. In addition to increasing our new student enrollment by 20% over the previous year, we<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/new-faculty-2019\/\">welcomed 10 new faculty members<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA) principal preparation program was honored as a primary reason why NC State University won the prestigious\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/11\/11\/nc-state-wins-aplu-national-economic-engagement-award\/\">2019 Economic Engagement Connections Award<\/a><\/strong>, the top prize at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities Annual Meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We celebrated the opening of the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/12\/04\/nc-state-college-of-education-celebrates-grand-opening-of-belk-center-for-community-college-leadership-and-research\/\">Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research*<\/a><\/strong>, which we began planning in the summer of 2018 after receiving a $10.86 million grant from the John M. Belk Endowment. In its first year of operation, the Belk Center engaged all 58 of North Carolina\u2019s community colleges a total of 285 times through various research and initiatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We achieved our highest-ever ranking in the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/03\/12\/nc-state-education-continues-to-move-up-in-u-s-news-ranking-now-no-45-in-nation\/\"><em>U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0rankings<\/a><\/strong>, tying at No. 45 among all graduate colleges of education in the country and No. 32 among public colleges of education. The publication also\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/preparing-exceptional-principals\/\">ranked our principal preparation program No. 22<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the nation in the Educational Administration and Supervision specialty category.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"has-gray-800-text-color wp-block-ncst-testimonial\">\n        <div class=\"testimonial-container\">\n          <p class=\"testimonial__content\">&#8220;The We Teach for NC trip was possibly the greatest trip that I\u2019ve ever been on that offered enriching, educational experiences. They traveled to Eastern North Carolina to meet with K-12 students, teachers, administrators and community leaders; understand the unique educational needs of these areas of the state; and consider how they might make an impact in a high-needs school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We were a supporter of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/12\/16\/nc-state-college-of-education-faculty-alumni-address-need-for-teacher-diversity-at-drive-summit\/\"><strong>the DRIVE (Developing a Representative and Inclusive Vision for Education) Summit<\/strong>,<\/a>\u00a0which was held in early December on NC State\u2019s campus and hosted by Gov. Roy Cooper\u2019s office in partnership with North Carolina Business Committee for Education and The Hunt Institute. Several of our faculty, staff, students and alumni helped organize the summit or participated in panel discussions about ways to support the recruitment and retention of a sustainable pipeline of black and Latinx teachers and school leaders in North Carolina.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We partnered with Johnston County Public Schools and Johnston Community College to establish a dual enrollment program and pilot\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/01\/14\/new-dual-enrollment-program-to-create-affordable-pathway-to-a-teaching-degree-prepare-highly-qualified-teachers-for-johnston-county\/\"><strong>a first-of-its-kind program that allows Johnson County residents to complete an Associate in Science (Teacher Education Concentration) degree<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and matriculate to the College of Education to complete their bachelor\u2019s degree before returning to the area to teach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pathway to Practice is everything a beginning teacher needs | Second-year teacher Amy Castle\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5FMgb8yWP2E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/12\/17\/1st-group-of-pathway-to-practice-nc-completers-earn-teaching-licensures-as-program-expands\/\"><strong>first residency-licensed teachers completed Pathway to Practice NC<\/strong><\/a>, our 100% online, joint state-approved Educator Preparation Program\u00a0with UNC-Chapel Hill. We also added new training modules to allow residency-licensed teachers to work towards full licensure in elementary or special education\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/05\/02\/nc-state-unc-chapel-hill-to-prepare-more-teachers-for-elementary-and-special-education-through-expansion-of-online-teacher-licensure-program\/\">thanks to a $200,000 grant from the State Employees\u2019 Credit Union Foundation<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We named Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor of Literacy Education\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/11\/19\/hiller-a-spires-named-executive-director-of-friday-institute-for-educational-innovation-associate-dean\/\"><strong>Hiller A. Spires, Ph.D. an associate dean and the executive director of our Friday Institute for Educational Innovation<\/strong><\/a>. As executive director, she will provide strategic direction and leadership for the Friday Institute, including expanding and sustaining its success and operation in North Carolina and beyond.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We heard from several prominent speakers at various events throughout the year, including former U.S. Secretary of Education\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/12\/11\/former-u-s-secretary-of-education-john-king-we-have-no-future-if-education-doesnt-improve-for-minority-and-low-income-students-in-u-s\/\"><strong>John King Jr<\/strong>.<\/a>, author and Children\u2019s Day Founder\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/09\/19\/author-poet-and-literacy-advocate-pat-mora-bookjoy-is-the-work-of-teachers\/\">Pat Mora<\/a><\/strong>, Valencia College President\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/12\/04\/valencia-college-president-sanford-sandy-shugart-dramatic-improvements-in-the-transfer-ecosystem-needed-to-help-students-transition-from-community-colleges-to-univ\/\">Sandy Shugart<\/a><\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ced.ncsu.edu\/news\/2019\/03\/22\/don-c-locke-symposium-lecturer-james-l-moore-iii-on-helping-african-american-male-students-to-achieve\/\">James L.
