With an interest in engineering, Wolfpack track and field student athlete Junpai Dowdy ’21 chose the technology, engineering, and design education program because he said it provided him with a more practical and hands-on experience that emphasized the use of technology.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit in March 2020, spring and summer sports seasons, including the 2020 Olympic Games, were canceled or postponed. This forced Wolfpack swimmer and College of Education senior Ky-Lee Perry ’21 to make a decision -- retire from swimming or become a professional athlete.

After discovering a love for teaching, Smith decided to pursue a Ph.D. in learning and teaching in STEM mathematics and statistics education program area of study from the NC State College of Education.
