NC State College of Education to Host N.C. Principal Fellows Program

 The University of North Carolina has announced that the N.C. Principal Fellows Program (NCPFP) will relocate from the UNC System office to NC State University’s College of Education campus in 2019. “NC State is proud to host the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program, collaborating with our partner universities to prepare upcoming generations of educational leaders who will positively impact students across our state,” said NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson.

Through Reading Methods Course, Graduate Students “Giving Hope” to Hispanic Families Facing Language Barriers

Through Ann Harrington’s Reading Methods course and a partnership with the Hispanic Family Center, graduate students in the NC State College of Education are tutoring children who need extra reading support this semester. During the process, the graduate students are building their expertise in reading instruction while giving hope to families facing multiple challenges.

NC State Education Alumni, N.C. Community College Leaders Win Awards of Distinction

Randy Parker ’11 EDD and David Shockley ’05 EDD received Shirley B. Gordon Awards of Distinction at honor society Phi Theta Kappa’s international meeting in April. Both currently serve as community college presidents in North Carolina.

Zarifa Zakaria Earns Fellowship to Research STEM Mentorship Program for Girls

Zakaria, a doctoral student in educational psychology at the NC State College of Education, received the American Association of University Women Fellowship to study girls’ mindsets on STEM education in Bangladesh.

Associate Professor Margareta Thomson Receives 2018-2019 Fulbright Scholar Award

Margareta Thomson, an associate professor of educational psychology, has received the U.S. Core Fulbright Scholar Award. Her proposed Fulbright project “Fostering Academic Motivation and a STEM Growth Mindset in High Poverty Schools through Authentic Research Experiences” will take place in Romania.

B.U.I.L.D. Summit Brings 100+ High School Male Students Together to Encourage “Building Community”

Designed around the theme “Building Community,” the third annual Brothers United in Leadership Development (B.U.I.L.D.) summit brought over 100 high school male students of color together on Saturday, April 14, to receive leadership training, participate in group discussions and workshops, and develop career and college readiness skills while building community with each other and with community and education leaders.
