Hannah Watlington ’22 always enjoyed taking math classes and helping her classmates in math courses, even though she’s not the best at math, she says. That’s all the more reason why she plans to be a math teacher. The N.C. Teaching Fellows Program and private support are lowering financial barriers to help her actualize that plan.

NC State: Home to Largest Teaching Fellows Cohort in N.C.

The NC State College of Education welcomed 54 new students to its North Carolina Teaching Fellows program this fall -- the largest entering cohort in the state. These new fellows join 20 other NC State students who composed the first cohort of Teaching Fellows at NC State since state legislators re-established the program in 2018. With 74 total Teaching Fellows, NC State is home to the largest group of Teaching Fellows in North Carolina, which is more than double the size of the next school.

"It’s our job [as educators] to get [students] excited with books and excited about bookjoy," said author, poet and literacy advocate Pat Mora during a talk and book signing hosted by the NC State College of Education Sept. 17.
