Kyanna “Kay” Sumpter ’22: ‘There is Nothing that Brings Me More Joy Than Being in Front of a Class and Teaching New Concepts That They Will Continue to Use Throughout Their Life’

When Kyanna "Kay" Sumpter came to NC State University as a Goodnight Scholar, she was looking for a community that would make her feel valued and a college that would prepare her to make an impact as a teacher. She found both during her time as a student in the NC State College of Education.

With a passion for dance, art and education, Jessika Patel ’21 has found a way to merge those interests as an elementary education major at NC State. And having relocated to the U.S. at a young age, her love of learning and cultures has shaped her college experience.
