Department Head Kevin Oliver, Associate Professor Angela Wiseman Help Preserve Historic Russell School Through Virtual Tour, Alumni Interviews

In the early 1900s, more than 800 Rosenwald Schools – schools for Black students built through philanthropic donations and funds raised by activists – were built in North Carolina. To preserve their history, Kevin Oliver, head of the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, and Associate Professor Angela Wiseman, have created a virtual tour of the Historic Russell School.

Juntos Students Publish 2nd Book with Support from Assistant Professor Crystal Chen Lee

NC State College of Education Assistant Professor Crystal Chen Lee, Ed.D., is helping Juntos students find the power in their voices through their second book, which was published in May. The students will share readings from the book during a Latinx Heritage Month event at NC State on Oct. 1.

Exploring Social Issues and Youth Advocacy through New #PasstheMicYouth Podcast

Christy Byrd, an assistant professor of applied developmental sciences at the NC State College of Education, is helping a group of NC State undergraduates explore culture, youth leadership and advocacy through a new podcast called #PasstheMicYouth. The student-run podcast -- which offers learn activities for each episode’s theme -- is set to launch May 2.

NC State Education Assistant Professor Helps Juntos 4-H Students Publish Book of Personal Narratives

NC State College of Education Assistant Professor Crystal Chen Lee helped a local Juntos NC writing club publish “The Roots of Our People: From One World to Another,” a bilingual book on Latinx immigrant and first-generation experiences in the United States.
