Dylan Stoneham ’18MED: Helping Others Succeed in Their Careers

As his career progressed, Dylan discovered a natural draw to training processes at the organization level. He wanted to explore how training opportunities not only created better working environments but how they empower employees. Now, he prepares to graduate with a master’s degree in Training and Development to help others gain the skills they need to succeed in their careers.

The college will hold its winter graduation ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the McKimmon Center. The ceremony will be livestreamed for those who would like to join the celebration but cannot attend in person.

Wendell Murphy ’60 Named NC State College of Education’s 2018 Distinguished Alumnus

Wendell Murphy has been named the NC State College of Education’s 2018 Distinguished Alumnus. He graduated from the College of Education in 1960 and worked as a teacher before translating what he learned about leadership into a career of business and policy leadership. Today, he’s the chair and chief executive officer emeritus of Murphy Family Farms, the nation’s leading swine producer.

Serving Others in Crisis and the Classroom

When Hurricane Florence hit North Carolina in mid-September, Mary-Lynn Kebker ’17MED was ready to serve. The Wolfpack WORKS literacy coach and N.C. National Guard captain led and coordinated hundreds of first responders during and after the storm to help families trapped by rising water and serve those with some of the greatest needs.

Storm to Storm: How One N.C. Educator Uses Lessons Learned From Katrina in the Wake of Florence

NC State College of Education Professor and Board Member Michael Ward ’77BS, ’81MS, ’93EDD experienced Hurricane Katrina firsthand in Mississippi. Now he’s using that experience -- and the research he conducted in its aftermath -- to spearhead FAST NC to help K-12 students and teachers in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence and Michael.

Edgecombe County Public Schools has named Matt Smith '14 MSA its 2018-19 Principal of the Year. Smith joined Edgecombe County Early College High School as principal after completing the NC State College of Education's Northeast Leadership Academy.

NC State Education Graduate Student Earns Obenauf Award for Research

Kayla Norville ’14 MED, a doctoral student in the NC State College of Education’s learning and teaching STEM program, received the Dr. Patricia A. Obenauf Graduate Student Research Presentation Award for her work in studying the influence in-service teachers have on pre-service science teachers.
