Friday Institute Partners with NCCU, IEI to Develop Digital Equity Plan for North Carolina

In partnership with North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI), the Program Evaluation and Education Research (PEER) Group at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation will lead the effort to manage the development of a Digital Equity Asset Inventory for North Carolina, conduct a series of listening sessions across the state and facilitate the implementation and analysis of a statewide digital equity survey in order to help the state develop a five-year digital equity plan.

Literacy and Community Initiative’s Fourth Annual Reading Celebration Highlights Artwork and Writing for the First Time

When Aaliyah, a student in the CORRAL Riding Academy program for girls in high-risk situations, first started painting for the Literacy and Community Initiative Storytelling Art Show (STARS), she sometimes struggled to focus at school. After participating in expressive art therapy as part of the Literacy and Community Initiative (LCI) partnership with CORRAL and the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA), Aaliyah was able to express her ideas through art while also writing to reflect and explain the motivation behind her creation.

Collaborative Team at Friday Institute, College of Education to Assess ATR Program Impact on Teaching and Learning in North Carolina with New NCDPI Grant

A recently funded one-year, $249,909 North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) grant will allow a collaborative team from the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and the NC State College of Education to assess the impact of the teacher compensation models and advanced teaching roles (ATR) program on teaching and learning in North Carolina. In addition, this evaluation includes a comparative analysis of program implementation in order to help identify and scale the most effective components of these programs.

Fellows are nominated by Friday Institute faculty fellows or directors and are selected for their strong record of academic achievement and service to students and educators.

Catalyst Grants Support K-12 Students and Teachers For More Personalized, Equitable and Engaged Learning

Each year the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and the NC State College of Education encourage faculty and staff to collaborate in developing innovative research through the Catalyst Grant program. For the 2021-2022 round of funding, three research teams were awarded Catalyst Grants. Researchers presented their work during the fourth annual Catalyst Grant Research Symposium, hosted Sept. 27.

Friday Institute’s PEER Group Acting Director Callie Edwards ’18PHD Receives NC State’s Award for Excellence for Human Relations

Callie Womble Edwards '18PHD, acting director of the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation’s Program Evaluation and Education Research (PEER) Group, has been awarded NC State’s Award for Excellence for Human Relations for her work creating a diverse, welcoming workplace for staff and students. This is the second year in a row that a staff member in the NC State College of Education has won NC State’s Award for Excellence.
