Professor Hollylynne S. Lee Selected as Finalist for Baylor’s Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching

Hollylynne Lee, Ph.D., professor of mathematics and statistics education in the NC State College of Education and senior faculty fellow at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, has been selected as one of three finalists for Baylor University’s highly prestigious Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching.

For Megan Bain ‘18MSA, education was not her intended career. She sort of fell into it. After earning her bachelor’s degree in international studies and Arabic, Bain joined Teach for America after witnessing the experience of one of her best friends in the program. Today, she is the 2020-21 Nash County High School Assistant Principal of the Year.

Morgan Harris ‘22 thought early on that she wanted to be a teacher but when she got to the NC State College of Education, she started to see how many other career possibilities were open to her. During her sophomore year, when she took a course with Instructor and University-School Partnership Liaison Kari Kuebel, her motivation to become an elementary school teacher was reignited.

She finally gave into her calling during a sociology course she took as an undergraduate that focused on social stratification, where she learned about the ways educational systems can both perpetuate and transcend social inequalities.
