The NC State College of Education Office of Global Programs has launched several new initiatives to support study abroad opportunities and international conference attendance for undergraduate and graduate students within the college.

A Global Educators Program for undergraduate and graduate students, a College of Education Global Presenter Award and a College of Education Global Award have been established to support education students’ efforts to study abroad.

“Our students are currently engaging globally through study abroad and presenting at international conferences, and these new funding resources show the College of Education’s support of our students’ global engagement and allows students who were facing financial barriers to access these opportunities as well,” said Ajaya Jonas, director of global programs.

Global Educators Program
As a Global Educator, students serve as an extension of the global programs office. They educate themselves and the college community on the value of global experiences, engage in both domestic and abroad opportunities and create innovative programming for College of Education students, faculty and staff, which highlights their global encounters.

Global Educators are required to attend global programming, reflect on what they learned through their global encounters and describe how to engage more College of Education students, faculty and staff in global experiences and create and execute global events.

Global Awards
The college has also launched a new College of Education Global Presenter Award to support graduate students’ efforts to present at international conferences. The award provides up to $1,000 in reimbursement of travel costs for students presenting at an international conference.

In an effort to encourage undergraduate study outside of the United States, the college has established the College of Education Global Award. Education students are eligible for an award ranging from $500 to $1,500 to put toward study abroad costs.

Study Abroad Opportunities
Starting in 2020, College of Education students will have the opportunity to study abroad in China, Kenya and Mexico. There are also opportunities for education students to study in Prague. By participating in these new global initiatives, students can earn financial support toward these study abroad programs.
