#WhyIChoseEducation: Travis Blackwell

As part of Celebrating 90 Years of NC State Education, we asked you to share your stories of why you chose education and why you love the NC State College of Education. Below is one of the many stories we received demonstrating how we’re leading the way in education in North Carolina and beyond.

Name: Travis Blackwell
Graduation Year: 2006
Program: Mathematics Education
Career Role & Responsibilities: Math teacher at Jack Britt High School in Johnston County (N.C.)

Why did you enter the field of education?
I entered the field of education because I wanted to be a positive role model for young black men like myself. With pop culture and the news, black men are not portrayed with the best image. I wanted to be an inspiration of success to them and students of any background.

Why did you choose to earn your degree from the NC State College of Education?
NC State takes pride in their excellence of being an institution of higher learning.
