2016 Spring Italy: Global Perspectives in Educational Leadership
This short-term immersion is designed to provide future school leaders the opportunity to develop global perspectives in educational practices through school observations, volunteering,and engagement with Italian educators and administrators.Following several class meetings in NC, students will travel to Sansepolcro, Italy, to learn about and compare how different cultures approach globalization, and will explore how they can support curriculum internationalization efforts and develop culturally competent teachers in their schools.
Students will visit Rome and Florence, as well.
Total Program Cost $2600, which includes:
- 3 credits hours ED course tuition
- survival Italian language instruction on-site
- Application charge ($350)
- Accommodations in a 16th century palazzo with breakfasts and lunches daily
- lodging in Rome
- in-country transportation
- Excursions and school visits
- International health insurance (in Italy)
Program Date:
- On-Campus Portion: several sessions in spring semester
- Travel Portion: March 4-13, 2016
Tentative itinerary:
March 4: Fly from Raleigh to Rome, Italy
March 5: Arrive in Rome, lodge in a hotel
March 6: Travel to San Sepolcro
March 7: School placement and site visit in the morning to local schools.
p.m.: Finalize the research study plan with local mentors; group discussions
March 8-11: Class observations, data collection, group discussion
March 11 pm: Reporting the findings and preparing for the final reports.
March 12: Cultural activities: Florence.
March 13: Return to RDU
