PD 6744 – Improving Civic Knowledge: The state of affirmative action

April 11, 2023 | 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

The College of Education’s Civic Champion Coalition seeks to provide learning opportunities for the college community to engage in important interdisciplinary learning experiences that center on civic life and learning. This spring, with support from the Teacher Education and Learning Sciences (TELS) Department and the Student Services and Advising Center (SSAC), we welcome Theodore (Ted) Shaw, the Julius L. Chambers Distinguished Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Civil Rights at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The session features a lecture and discussion with Ted Shaw regarding the history, evolution, and current questions facing affirmative action in higher education. The Supreme Court is reviewing two cases involving affirmative action and will render decisions with potential implications across educational institutions this June.
