PD 6702 – Data Science for Social Good in the Elementary Classroom
October 12, 2022 | 4:45 pm - 5:45 pm
How can educators foster the use of data science for positive social impact? Come to a 1-hour session where we will dive into data science(DS) for social good in the elementary classroom. You will learn key definitions, a DS workflow, standards, and best practices for “littles” to upper elementary.
We will then get our hands dirty by diving into a DSSG project of your choice( lower/upper elementary). Here you will follow the process of collecting data, storing it, exploring it, asking questions through modeling with visualization, and finally communicating the results. At the same time, we will see how it relates to students’ daily lives and their communities to raise awareness of issues in their society – while addressing diversity, inclusion, and equity.
