PD 571 – Fighting Hegemonic Education with Liberatory Education

January 28, 2021 | 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In this presentation, the facilitator will define and describe “hegemonic education” and discuss curricular and pedagogical strategies to develop a liberatory educational praxis, which includes the critical reflection, analysis, and action of creating an education that humanizes and liberates all people through anti-racist, abolitionist, culturally responsive, and critical educational approaches.

Bio: Jonathan Peraza Campos is an Atlanta-based Salvadoran and Guatemalan educator, organizer, and researcher. He is the Migration Curator for Central American News and a Master’s student of Social Foundations of Education at Georgia State University. He is dedicated to abolition, racial, migrant, and educational justice, which he approaches through his educational consulting, research, teaching, and activism. Through social movements and liberatory education, Jonathan hopes to build the next generation of youth and communities who will build the just and equitable world that we all deserve to live in.
