PD 553 – Literacy and Community Initiative’s Inaugural Reading Celebration

March 29, 2019 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Please join us for the Literacy and Community Initiative’s Inaugural Reading Celebration! Young authors from local organizations will share their narratives from three published books: Strong and Unbroken, Blueprints: Rebuilding Lives and Redesigning Futures, and The Roots of Our People: From One World to Another–Juntos. The Literacy and Community Initiative (LCI) is a collaboration among the NC State’s College of Education’s Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, the Friday Institute, and community-based organizations. LCI’s mission is to build a university and community-based partnerships by amplifying youth voices through student publications, advocacy, and leadership (Write; Engage; Lead). Alongside LCI, youth from Triangle Literacy Council’s Bull City YouthBuild and the Juntos Hispanic Literacy Club will read their written narratives and answer questions on their personal journeys, challenges, and successes. Come hear their powerful stories and engage with student authors in the community. Reception and book signing to follow.

Please RSVP here by March 20th.
