Applying for your Professional License

Students are strongly encouraged to attend one of the licensure sessions with a laptop to complete the process for licensure. Click here to see the upcoming dates.

After completion of your professional education program you must apply for your license through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

This process is completed through the NCDPI Online Licensure System.

The application remains active for 30 days.  Please review the licensure requirements below prior to beginning the process.

Undergraduate (B.S. & B.A.) and Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)

Review the Licensure Tab in the SAGE system

  1. Overall GPA is greater than 2.75
  2. Successfully completed Student Teaching
  3. Completed the required number of Professional Development Credits
  4. Passed the required Licensure exams
  5. Obtained NC State Transcripts
  6. Obtained transcripts for all other institutions
  7. Submitted your edTPA to Pearson
  8. Obtained your Certification of Capacity

Alternative Licensure Programs

  1. Overall GPA is greater than 2.75
  2. Successfully completed a minimum of 1 year of teaching
  3. Passed the required Licensure exams
  4. Obtained NC State Transcripts
  5. Obtained transcripts for all other institutions

Advanced Programs (M.Ed., M.S., M.S.A., Ed.D, Ph.D.)

  1. Overall GPA is greater than 2.75
  2. Passed the required Licensure exams
  3. Obtained NC State Transcripts
  4. Obtained transcripts for all other institutions

You must apply for a NCDPI login at least one week prior to applying for a license.
