Bio

Danielle is a second-year teacher in Johnston County. She grew up in Wake County and has always yearned to be an educator. She was blessed to have profound teachers who shaped her into the teacher she is today. Her goal is to continue learning the latest research, strive for inclusive and equitable classroom strategies, and continue to reflect and improve upon my practice. “I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” Maya Angelou

Why NC State?

I chose to pursue graduate-level education at NC State because it is a highly accredited school that is known to produce research in various fields. Growing up in Wake County not far from Raleigh, I dreamed of attending NC State. My spouse’s military experience took us further south for undergraduate school, but I’m excited to continue my graduate journey at NCSU.

One insight gained so far…

The biggest concept that I have learned so far about diversity, equity, and inclusion is ensuring I am a globally competent teacher. I must establish a classroom that tackles current events and national issues so that my students are not only aware of other cultures, diverse topics, and real-world situations, but also have the opportunity to interact with and see different groups of people represented. I had to look within myself to see what biases or possible unknown prejudices I was bringing into my classroom so that I could overcome them and be the best version of myself for my students. Diversity should be celebrated. Equity and inclusion should be mandatory.
