About the Lab

Eye tracking headset

Eye-Tracking

The eye-tracking equipment allows analysis of individuals interacting with physical models, paper-based materials and all manner of interactive computer-based products. Data collected with this equipment includes: eye fixation paths, video, audio, and keystroke/mouse input information.

Usability

Still image from combined video feed

The Usability portion of the lab captures a subjects reactions to computer stimuli. A video of the subject is combined with the video out feed of the monitor and is recorded simultaneously.

Portable Recording

The VISE project has a variety of recording capabilities. They include several digital video and still cameras as well as portable audio mixers and a variety of sound recording devices. Portable recording is integral to the research project in not only developing curricular tools but understanding how they are used in our pilot sites.

Analysis

The Analysis stations of the the VISE project are used to encode and transcribe video as well as audio tapes. Several peripherals and software applications are available to aid in transcription including USB foot pedals, or Dragon Speak for direct voice to text computer translation. The primary video analysis application being used is Noldus. It allows the researchers to import video and code sections or instances of video and directly associate them with the video time code. Noldus can run basic statistical analysis based on the encoding or create video play lists of particular codes.

3-D Stereo Projection

The 3-D stereo projection unit is used as a demonstration tool for different types of Scientific visualization. Our 3-D stereo unit is comprised of a two projector system used in conjunction with polarized filters and glasses.

For more details on 3-D please see our 3-D stereo projection page here.
