Reflection for NETS VI-A & D

VI-A.) Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.

VI-D.) Promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.

During the first week of class, one of the journal entries the students were to complete was to generate a list of policies and procedures they felt were important for the class to observe concerning the use of any technology. This includes software, Internet, and graphing calculators. The following day I had the students break out into groups of 4 to discuss their ideas on that topic. The group task was to generate a group list of policies and procedures and to present their list to the class. Finally, as a class, we looked at all of the group lists and generated a class list from these. As the teacher I encouraged them to think about copyright issues and a general sense of what they felt was fair to the author and to the user.

I felt that having the students generate their own ideas and "rules" would make them more meaningful. The discussion helps to reinforce the importance of these guidelines. These rules should be typed up by the next class for the students to sign and take home for their parents to sign.
