Program


Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship

Provides up to 10 scholarships for first-year and transfer students from diverse backgrounds who have demonstrated leadership and special achievement through high school and community service.

Harry Lee Bowling Endowed Scholarship

Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled or accepted in the College of Education. Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and awards are renewable if the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress. Recipients are selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

College of Education Student Scholarship

Provides scholarship(s) for undergraduate student(s) enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate program in the College of Education.

Directors Scholarship

Provides one scholarship of approximately $2,500 to a student enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate program in the College of Education. Selection of the award recipient will be based on academic excellence, demonstrated need and leadership through extracurricular achievements. The student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, a combined SAT score of 1100 with a verbal and mathematical minimum score no less than 500, and/or an ACT score of 23 or greater. Preference will be given to, but not limited to, a North Carolina resident. The award may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Endowed Scholarship

Provides a scholarship of approximately $1,000 to student(s) accepted or enrolled in the College of Education. Recipients are selected on the basis of need and merit, and awards are renewable if an overall 3.0 GPA is maintained.

Excellence Scholarship

Provides scholarships for students in Math, Science and Technology Education, Counselor Education or other curricula in the College of Education. Recipient(s) are selected on the basis of need and merit. Scholarships may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Margaret & Tanya Gayle
Elementary Education Scholarship

Provides one scholarship of $1,000 to a first-year student accepted or enrolled in the Elementary Education curriculum. Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need, leadership and extracurricular achievements. A personal interview by the scholarship committee is required. The student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, a combined SAT score of 1200 with a verbal and mathematical minimum score no less than 500, and/or an ACT score of 23 or greater. The scholarship may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Scholarship

Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education who demonstrate financial need.

Endowed Agricultural Scholarship

Provides scholarship support of up to $2,500 to a student accepted or enrolled in an Agricultural Education curriculum. Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements. Recipient must be a U.S. citizen. Award may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.

Endowed Scholarship

Provides scholarship support of up to $2,500. Recipient must be enrolled or accepted in the College of Education. Selection is based on academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements. Recipient must be a U.S. citizen. Award may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.

J. Bryant Kirkland Merit

Endowed Scholarship

Provides scholarships for students enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate curriculum in the College of Education. Selection will be based on academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements. Recipient must be a U.S. citizen. Award may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.

Bryan Edward Knox Scholarship Endowment

Provides an undergraduate academic scholarship to a student accepted or enrolled in the College of Education, renewable on the basis of good academic standing and demonstrated financial need.

John, Rebecca and Drew Logan Scholarship

Provides undergraduate scholarship to full-time student(s) who wish to become teachers with demonstrated merit through a genuine passion for lifelong learning, and demonstrated passion for children. Special consideration given to undergraduates who have experiences and interest in student with learning disabilities. The scholarship may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Moshakos Family Teacher Education

Scholarship

1) Provides a scholarship of $2,000 annually to a student enrolled or accepted into an undergraduate teacher education curriculum within the College of Education. Renewable for four years based on academic eligibility. Preference for this scholarship will be given to residents of Wake County.

2) Provides a scholarship of $2,000 annually to a rising junior enrolled or accepted into a teacher education curriculum within the College of Education. Renewable based on academic eligibility. Preference for this scholarship will be given to residents of Wake County.

Frank I. Murray, Jr. Scholarship

Provides a scholarship to outstanding undergraduate students with demonstrated leadership potential accepted or enrolled in the College of Education. Applicants should have a 3.5 or higher high school GPA with a verbal or mathematical minimum score no less than 500; and or an ACT score of 23 or greater. Consideration of applicants shall be limited to North Carolina resident(s), and preference shall be given, but not limited to, student(s) from rural western North Carolina. The scholarship may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Clarence Poe Endowed Scholarship

Provides scholarship(s) up to $1,500 to a student enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate curriculum in the College of Education. Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular achievements. Recipient must be a North Carolina resident.

Progress Energy Math, Science, and
Technology Education Scholarship

Provides an undergraduate merit-based scholarship for a future middle school teacher of mathematics, science or technology education.

Lillian Ruth Rupard Memorial Scholarship

Provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education with demonstrated financial need. Scholarships are renewable based upon financial eligibility and good academic standing. This scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Lillian Ruth Rupard of Brookshire, Texas. Recipients are selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Ruth L. and Herbert E. Speece Scholarship

Provides scholarships to juniors and/or seniors majoring in mathematics education or science education in the College of Education. Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship may be renewed provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

 

Jerry and Elizabeth Godwin Scholarship

Provides scholarships for freshmen enrolling in the College of Education who are majoring in Mathematics Education. Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence with need as a consideration, and may be renewed provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress as determined by the University.

The Sara Lee Multimedia Technology

Education Scholarship

Provides scholarships for students enrolled or accepted in any undergraduate curriculum in the College of Education. Selection will be based on academic excellence, leadership, and extracurricular achievements.

The Elois and Allie Mack Clayton Scholarship 

                                                                             

Provides a need based scholarship to a student who is majoring in Mathematics or Science Education in the College of Education. Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.  If there are no need based students in the Mathematics or Science Education, the scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate student in the College of Education. The scholarship may be renewed on the basis of academic excellence and may be renewed provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress as determined by the University.                          

                                                                                                                               

The Diana G. and James L. Oblinger Scholarship

Provides a scholarship to a student who is a resident of North Carolina and majoring in Mathematics or Science Education in the College of Education. Applicants should have a 3.0 or higher high school GPA. The scholarship may be renewed for up to 3 years provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Peter H. Martorella Student Award

Provides scholarships to undergraduate students for up to $1,000 majoring in middle grades social studies teacher education. The scholarship may be renewed for up to 1 year provided the student maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Noyce Mathematics Education Teaching Scholars

Deadline: March 1, 2010 for Undergraduate Applicants and May 1, 2010 for Graduate Applicants

(with priority given to those who apply before March 1st)

Provides scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the College of Education. Applicants should have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 overall and a GPA of 3.0 in all mathematical science courses. Applicants must be committed to teaching in grades 9-12 in a high-need school district. Noyce Scholars must teach in a high-need school district for two years for every one year of funding received.

Undergraduate

1) Students who are within the last three (3) to four (4) academic semesters of undergraduate study and are current majors in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education are eligible to apply for the undergraduate scholarship. All undergraduate applicants must intend to earn a double degree in Mathematics Education and either Mathematics or Statistics. Preference will be given to those accepted into both majors by the application deadline. Undergraduates may NOT be a current Teaching Fellow, Park Scholar, Caldwell Fellow, or other full scholarship recipient.

Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate Scholarships

Candidates who currently hold, or will earn by August of application year, a Bachelors degree in a mathematical science (e.g., mathematics, statistics, computer science), and wish to pursue grades 9-12 teaching licensure are encouraged to apply for the post-baccalaureate and graduate level stipends. Preference will be given to those pursuing a Masters degree in Mathematics Education as well as licensure. Acceptance into the masters degree program is a separate process. Burroughs Wellcome Fund Scholarships

 

Provides scholarships to junior and senior science majors who are willing to declare education as a second major and commit to teaching science in the N.C. public school system following graduation (one year of teaching for each year of scholarship). Recipients will receive a $6,500 scholarship for up to two years and may receive an annual teaching salary supplement of $5,000 for up to five years. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.75.

Study Abroad Scholarship

Deadline: February 12, 2010

The College of Education encourages our students to take advantage of the opportunity to study education outside of the United States and has recently instituted a new Study Abroad Scholarship to support our students’ efforts.  The scholarships will range from $500 to $1000. The following criteria will be considered by the scholarship review committee in selecting award recipients:

  • Student's first major must be in the College of Education.
  • Student must be enrolled full time.
  • Student must have completed two semesters in CED by time of travel.
  • Student must have a 3.0 GPA at time of application (3.5 GPAfor graduate students)
  • Preference will be given to students who have actively participated in CED clubs and organizations.

CED graduate students may also apply for this award if they have a 3.5 GPA or higher and are enrolled full time.Scholarship recipients are required to share knowledge gained through their study abroad experience with CED students upon return through a presentation, written piece or other activity agreed upon with the CED study abroad coordinator.

North Carolina Prospective Teacher Scholarship Loan

Deadline: April 15, 2010

North Carolina residents interested in pursuing a career in teaching can borrow up to $4,000 per year. For every year a recipient teaches in NC public schools, one year of the loan amount and the interest accrued will be forgiven. North Carolina Council for the Social Studies

Student Teacher Scholarship

The North Carolina Council for the Social Studies is proud to sponsor the Student Teacher Scholarship to be awarded at the President's Reception on February 25, 2010 in Greensboro, NC. This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a student who will be teaching in social studies in 2010 or 2011.

The Doctoral Dissertation Award is designed to stimulate research and development of new knowledge in the fields of insurance, business, and education, and to increase the number of qualified teachers of insurance, business, and education at U.S. colleges and universities. Teacher Assistant Scholarship Fund (TASF)

Provides scholarships to full-time teacher assistants pursuing initial licensure through a baccalaureate program at a NC college or university with an approved teacher education program or enrolled a in a North Carolina community college transfer program leading to teacher certification at a qualifying four-year campus. Students already holding baccalaureate degrees seeking initial licensure are eligible to apply.

William Tasse Alexander Scholarship Fund


Deadline: MARCH 30, 2010

The William Tasse Alexander Scholarship Fund provides merit scholarships to undergraduate students from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina primarily in the field of education.

Minimum Eligibility:

  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Be majoring in the field of education or taking courses leading to a career in teaching*
  • Be legal residents of Mecklenburg County, NC*

Future Teachers of North Carolina Scholarship/Loan Program


Deadline: June 2009

This program has been repealed effective July 2011. Funding for 2010-11 will be limited to college seniors who will graduate at the end of the 2010-11 academic year. The Future Teachers of North Carolina Scholarship/Loan program was established by the 2005 North Carolina General Assembly to provide scholarships/loans to college juniors and seniors who are seeking licensure to teach math, science, special education or English as a second language in North Carolina's public schools. This two-year scholarship-loan can be used at any North Carolina four-year institution that offers a teacher education program. Future Teacher of North Carolina is administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.

Eligibility
In order to maintain this award, the following criteria must be met:
  • Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
  • Present a 3.0 grade point average (GPA)
  • Enroll full-time as a degree-seeking student in a teacher education undergraduate program
  • Commit to teach full-time in the areas of math, science, special education, or English as a Second Language in a North Carolina public school for three years upon graduation
Value
The annual award will be $6,500 per year for students enrolled full time (a minimum of 12 credit hours for both the fall and spring semesters). One half of the award is made available to the recipients in the fall semester the remainder in the spring semester. Funding for the program is contingent each year upon appropriations made available to the State Education Assistance Authority by the General Assembly.

Please note that students who are current recipients of the Prospective Teacher Scholarship/Loan, the Physical Education - Coaching Scholarship/Loan, or the Teaching Fellows Program are not eligible to receive funding from the FTNC program.

High School Seniors

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Awards 50 four-year $20,000 scholarships and 200 four-year $10,000 scholarships for use at accredited colleges and universities within the US.
  • Rewards leadership and excellence as exemplified through academic achievement and extracurricular activities, including commitment to community service.
  • Available beginning in August as an electronic application.
  • Applications must be submitted by October 31 of the senior year to qualify.
