LICENSURE ONLY

  • LO programs can differ greatly depending on your content area. The time it takes you to complete an LO program will depend upon your background in the content area and how many courses you are willing to take during each semester.

  • Typical LO programs consist of:

    • Content-Area Coursework (specific to each person based on a transcript evaluation)

    • Education Coursework (23-39 hours)

    • Student Teaching (usually 8 hours of credit or 1 semester)

  • Advantage over other programs:
You will be fully trained before you enter the classroom. You can take as long as you need to complete the licensure requirements. If you have taken education courses previously, you may be able to count these towards your licensure requirements. PRAXIS II tests are not required for licensure only. Licensure only is your only option if you are not "highly qualified" in your content area. To be "highly qualified" (and thus be eligible for a lateral entry program), you must have one of the following requirements: 1) an undergraduate or graduate degree in your content area, 2) passing scores for the PRAXIS II subject-area test, or 3) at least 24 semester hours of coursework (~8 courses) in your content area. If you do not meet any of these requirements, you must do licensure only (you are not eligible for lateral entry).
