The College of Education is the lead professional education unit on campus.  The College works closely with affiliated professional programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Science and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to provide a comprehensive array of fully accredited programs designed to meet both state and national standards. The Unit’s professional educator licensure programs are approved by the N. C. State Board of Education through the NC Department of Public Instruction  (NCDPI) and the Unit is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Professional Education in the College of Education and affiliated programs at NC State holds a continuing commitment to provide an excellent faculty and programs that prepare our candidates to teach or to provide leadership or other school services with sound content knowledge, excellent  pedagogy, and effective leadership skills and counseling or social work processes.

Four of the College's five academic departments offer undergraduate and graduate programs leading to a North Carolina license as a professional educator in public school education, K-12. The fifth department prepares professionals for post-secondary teaching and administration. There are also programs leading to educator licensure in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
