Lecture: GANGS and GANG involvement in schools

On February 5, 2008, the College of Education and the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies will host University of California Santa Barbara's Dr. Victor Rios for his lecture titled, "At-Risk Institutions and At-Risk Youth: Developing Purpose in Times of Change."
Dr. Rios is a former gang member who earned a Ph.D. in Sociology (Ethnic Studies) from the University of California Berkeley. He will speak about culture, class, race, and racism in schools; how teachers and aspiring teachers can support at-risk youth; and how to develop curriculum, pedagogy, and programs that embrace all students in the classroom.
The talk will be given at 2 times and locations:
10:15 am, D.H. Hill Library, Erdahl-Cloyd Theater
5:30 pm, The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation
