Diane Chapman Named
2009 Parks Todd Award Winner
April 17, 2009-- The North Carolina Distance Learning Association (NCDLA) has awarded
Dr. Diane Chapman, its 2009 Parks Todd Award for Distinguished Service
to the Field of Distance Learning. The award is presented annually to
recognize individuals who are leaders in planning, implementing, and
managing distance learning programs in North Carolina, have shown
leadership in extending the reach of distance learning programs, and
have furthered the role of distance learning in the NC educational
community.
Parks Todd was a pioneer in the field of distance learning in North
Carolina. His commitment to this work began in early 1987 when he was
introduced to the statewide distance learning system - EDNET; the North
Carolina Educational Network. Through his efforts, the staff development
office provided educational and learning opportunities statewide. The
Governor*s Office requested Parks to serve on the first committee
tasked to explore applications and the implementation of what is now the
North Carolina Information Highway. Through years of public service in
distance learning, Parks Todd symbolized innovation, commitment, and
dedication to learning anywhere and anytime.
Diane Chapman is a faculty member in the College of Education, in the
department of Adult and Higher Education. She currently directs the
activities of the Training and Development Online M.Ed. and certificate
programs at NC State.
