Dr. Hollebrands joined the faculty at NC State in 2001. She earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at The Pennsylvania State University. Her dissertation focused on characterizing high school students' understandings of geometric transformations when instruction capitalized on the use of a dynamic software program for geometry, The Geometer's Sketchpad. Prior to attending Penn State, Dr. Hollebrands taught high school mathematics in New York and North Carolina. She earned her M.Ed. at North Carolina State University and B.S. at the State University of New York College at Oswego.
Dr. Hollebrands' current interests include understanding students' mathematical understandings in technological contexts, preparing prospective and practicing teachers to incorporate technology into classroom instruction and preparing teachers to teach in ways that promote and support the development of students' conceptual understandings. She has served as the Editor of the Technology Tips column for the Mathematics Teacher; Electronic Communications Secretary for the Special Interest Group, Research in Mathematics Education, and is currently serving as Chair of the Editorial Board for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics' most recent journal, ON-Math.
Over the past six years, Dr. Hollebrands has been involved in several internally- and externally-funded research projects. Current projects include: Preparing Teachers to Teach Mathematics with Technology (PTMT: http://www.ncsu.edu/project/ptmt/), Recognizing Accelerated Mathematics Potential in Underrepresented People (RAMP-UP:http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/k12outreach/rampup/) and Integrating Dynamic Geometry Software in a College Geometry Course.
