Reserving the Cart
The mobile cart makes it possible for any room in Poe Hall to become a temporary computer lab. The cart is easy to operate if you follow a few simple instructions and plan ahead. A user's manual is included with step-by-step procedures for start up and shut down. You may wish to schedule some time with media center personnel beforehand to walk you through setting up the cart and using the laptops.
The cart is available for faculty/staff teaching in Poe Hall on a reservation basis. Demand for this equipment is high, so it is important to reserve it as much in advance as possible. It may be reserved for one class period or multiple class periods. Reservations are on a first come/first serve basis. You may reserve it in any of the following ways:
• in person in the Media center (400 Poe Hall)
• by phone at 515-3191
• by email to atakers at ncsu.edu
If you have reserved the cart and then decide you will not be needing
it, please let us know immediately so it can be made available for someone
else. If you have reserved it but do not pick it up within 30 minutes,
we will make it available for others.

Printing/Saving
If you plan to print to the HP laser printer that is included on the
cart, you will need to be logged into Nomad (wireless network).
Wireless Network
The wireless network employed by the mobile cart is part of the campus Nomad System. Nomad automatically supplies the laptops with IP access via DHCP and acts as a firewall requiring users to authenticate through the Nomad login page with a valid Unity ID and password before granting the computer access to the Internet and network resources.
Because the cart's wireless access point takes several minutes to pass network traffic, please allow time for the network to come up BEFORE using the laptops. The cart's network cable must be connected to a Nomad-enabled network port in the classroom for the laptops to be able to work on the network. To learn more about the wireless network available in Poe and to see network access points in rooms on each floor of Poe please visit the CED Help Desk Nomad page.
If you are using the cart for a workshop for non-NCSU participants,
a limited number of Unity guest accounts is available from the CED computer Help Desk (414A Poe - 515-3718).
Help
Contact the CED Help Desk (414A
Poe) at 515-1760 or the Media center (400 Poe) at 515-3191.
When you plan to use the mobile classroom, please allow yourself (or us,
if you will need help) enough setup time. If you will need help with maneuvering
the cart or setting it up, please let us know in advance.
When you return the cart, please fill out the log on the clipboard on top of the cart. This information helps keep the cart in good working order and provides important data for reporting tech fee expenses and planning future purchases. It helps us prepare the cart for the next user. Someone from the help desk staff or the media center will initial the log when your problems have been addressed. If you are reporting problems, please be as specific and detailed as possible. You may also want to alert a staff person to any problems you had while using the mobile classroom. We are also interested in your suggestions to make the mobile classroom more user friendly.
